John O'Hurley admits (albeit with a chuckle) President Trump's Memorial Day tweet was inappropriate ... but adds America didn't "hire" him for his decency.

We got John leaving Craig's on Monday night in WeHo and wanted to get his take on 45's self-serving tweet.

The tweet drew outrage ... from politicians to the Veterans group VoteVets that's more than half a million strong on Twitter. The group responded, "This is the most inappropriate #MemorialDay comment that a @POTUS has ever made. Self-promotion on a day to remember the fallen, and wishing those remembering their deceased loved ones a 'happy' holiday is appalling. #CadetBoneSpurs."

Dr. Dre's mega-mansion in L.A. is a sight to behold, but he's looking to add even more awesomeness to it ... underground.

According to L.A. City docs, obtained by TMZ ... Dre's got plans to dig up a huge portion of his property -- roughly the size of his home -- to build a basement (or bunker? or music studio?) featuring a few lightwells. He's also obtained permits to add retaining walls around his palace ... and a guard house.

It's unclear what the whole project's gonna cost the music mogul, but with excavation and additions -- along with construction of an underground fortress -- it could potentially be millions.

FYI -- Dre applied for the permits a few years ago, but he just got them granted this month.

Dr. Dre's mansion sits on 4 acres in Brentwood and features an infinity pool with ocean and canyon views, a poolside cabana, a gym, an outdoor kitchen and living area, 7 fireplaces ... and a freakin' moat.

He bought the house in 2014 from Tom Brady and Gisele for $40 million, and recently scooped up another pad in Calabasas for $4.9 mil.

Matthew Lewis is doing life right ... he found a partner for life who doubles as his drinking partner. That's the stuff dreams are made of right there.

Matthew -- the guy you know best as Neville Longbottom from the 'Harry Potter' films -- is in Portofino, Italy living the dream alongside Angela Jones. She was his fiancée when she carried their booze Sunday while relaxing on the sand before they said "I Do" on Monday.

The news came as a bombshell to many fans ... who woke up on Memorial Day to find out Matthew's officially off the market. But we knew this was coming.

TMZ broke the story ... Matthew -- who morphed outta his nerdy role and into this Hollywood hottie -- popped the question back in November 2016 in Paris. As we reported ... they met at a Wizarding World event in January 2016 at Universal Studios in Orlando, where Angela's an event planner.

That's what Kylie Jenner did Monday night -- sitting courtside at the Houston Rockets playoff game ... cheering on James Harden.

Kylie was at the Houston Toyota Center with her boyfriend, Travis Scott -- who's from the area and happens to be a huge Rockets fan.

In the end, Harden and the Rockets lost to the Golden State Warriors 101-92 -- who now advance to the NBA Finals to take on Cleveland ... where Khloe's current boyfriend plays.

Kylie and Travis weren't the only big stars at the game ... rap superstars Lil Wayne and E-40 were there too.

George Lopez knows Memorial Day's about appreciating the sacrifice of people who died for freedom in America, but says someone needs to teach President Trump.

We got the comedian -- and perhaps Trump's #1 critic -- in WeHo Monday, where we asked what he made of Trump's self-praising holiday tweet.

In case you missed it ... Trump shouted out his own administration more than saying an actual "thank-you" to fallen soldiers, saying they'd be pleased with the country's unemployment numbers and revamped military.

Vanilla Ice has one helluva determined mind ... 'cause not even one of his fans tripping and inadvertently cartwheeling her ass off stage broke his concentration ... or the concert, for that matter.

We got a hold of this video from a Vanilla Ice concert that went down at La Hacienda Event Center in Odessa, Texas back in October. The person who shot this video tells us the incident happened near the end of the show ... when Vanilla brought a bunch of fans up onstage.

You can see the young female fan at first soaking up the spotlight ... but her luck literally goes downhill after scooting over a bit so she can snap a pic.

"Pawn Stars" Jesse Amoroso says Kurt Cobain's "MTV Unplugged" guitar is a piece of rock and roll history and belongs someplace special ... in other words -- NOT with Frances Bean's ex-husband.

The guitar expert and Cowtown Guitars owner tells TMZ ... Kurt's 'Unplugged' performance with the 1959 Martin D-18E is synonymous with the '90s and as iconic as the white Fender Stratocaster Jimi Hendrix shredded with at Woodstock.

Amoroso says because Cobain played the acoustic-electric Martin -- which is already a rare guitar because only 302 were ever made -- it's basically priceless ... though he estimates it could easily fetch close to a million bucks or more at auction.

Jesse also tells us if Cobain's 'Unplugged' guitar ends up on sale, he hopes it ends up someplace where it will be appreciated ... like Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture or the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

We broke the story ... Frances Bean Cobain conceded her dad's famous guitar to her ex-husband, Isaiah Silva, in their divorce settlement after a long legal battle.

6:00 AM PT 5/29 -- Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Ramona caused the pile-up. She took her eyes off the road for a second and did not see a vehicle stopping in traffic ahead of her. Singer's Maserati rear-ended the vehicle, causing a chain reaction into the other cars. Singer only suffered minor injuries. No one else was injured.

Law enforcement also tells us no alcohol or drugs were involved, and no arrests or traffic tickets were issued.

Ramona Singer had a rough start to her long Memorial Day Weekend after getting in a nasty fender bender, but she's on the mend now ... TMZ has learned.

"The Real Housewives of New York" star had left her home in Southampton, NY Saturday and was traveling along Montauk Highway in her Maserati when she rear-ended a Mazda ... according to sources close to Ramona.

We're told it was a 4-car pileup caused by a sudden stop by the first car, the Mazda was car #3 ... and Singer's Maserati was in the back.

Our sources say Ramona wasn't seriously injured, but was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with bruises and minor aches and pains. She was treated and released shortly afterward.

We're told she's still shaken up, but is doing okay and recovering nicely.

Dean Cain seems to agree with his friend James Caan that the world's a strange place right now regarding how men and women interact ... and also shares his support of Morgan Freeman.

We got the former Superman actor out at the National Mall in D.C. on Memorial Day and asked about Caan's comments to us last week ... Dean tells us he sees where James is coming from, and dismisses a video tape many feel shows Freeman acting inappropriately to a reporter as "ridiculous."

Cain goes on to explain hitting on the opposite sex is fine if it doesn't go too far -- and he's seen that happen on both sides -- but the current culture's not going to stop him from talking to a beautiful woman.

Eminem and Nicki Minaj aren't dating ... but they're certainly having fun with the idea.

The rapper was headlining the Boston Calling festival Sunday night when he addressed the rumors -- in jest -- asking the crowd for their approval of the hip hop stars being a power couple ... and it's hilarious.

As we reported, Nicki fueled the dating rumors when she replied "yes" to a fan's comment asking if she and Slim Shady were dating ... but then sources close to Minaj told us she was only joking.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know there's speculation LeBron will bounce from Cleveland next season -- even if he leads them in the Finals to another championship -- and there's a lot of talk he could end up in Philly or L.A.

Amber Rose avoided a massive brawl in Washington D.C. where a man got knocked the hell out in the street and was struck by a car.

The melee went down Sunday at Decades DC, where Amber was the star of the event. Our photog says minutes before Amber arrived, a guy was out of control, trying to muscle his way in ... even swinging at the bouncers.

The hired muscle put the guy in a headlock, but he busted free and swung at one of the bouncers and that was enough ... a single punch floored the guy in the street, and as he hit the ground he made contact with a car that was driving by.

Amber showed up while the fight was in progress and her SUV took off with her ... then circled back and she was rushed inside.

The 22-year-old undocumented immigrant who risked his life to save a young child in Paris is not only a national hero ... he's about to become an official French citizen.

Mamoudou Gassama became a worldwide sensation this weekend after climbing 4 stories in seconds to rescue a 4-year-old boy who was hanging on to a balcony railing for dear life. The video's incredible.

Gassama's heroics saved the child, and now the Malian migrant's been cast into the national spotlight after a meeting with President Emmanuel Macron ... in which he was presented with a certificate and a gold medal for performing an act of courage and dedication.

Mamoudou will also be granted citizenship and has been offered a job with the Paris fire brigade.

According to reports, the young hero was in the area to watch a football match when he noticed the commotion and sprung into action. He said ... "I like children, I would have hated to see him getting hurt in front of me. I ran and I looked for solutions to save him and thank God I scaled the front of the building to the balcony."

Spencer Pratt is having the best Memorial Day ... thanks to Ben Affleck.

The former 'Hills' star apparently had a chance encounter with Batman Monday, and he's totally stoked about it. He shared a vid with the actor and wasn't shy about gushing over him ... saying he had chills from the meeting.

Chelsea Manning is physically ok, after posting an image of someone standing on a ledge ... appearing to be on the verge of jumping to her death.

She quickly deleted the post, which was captioned, "I'm sorry." Someone posted on her account early Monday morning, "Chelsea is safe," adding ... "She is on the phone with friends, thanks everyone for your concern and please give her some space."

Manning has had her struggles for years. As you know, she's the whistleblower who went to prison in 2013 for giving government files to Wikileaks. President Obama commuted her sentence.
