Travis Scott and a handful of artists are jumping to the defense of a Black man in Texas whose rap lyrics were cited during his sentencing for a double murder ... which landed him on death row, but the rappers believe using lyrics to impose capital punishment is unconstitutional.

James Broadnax was 19-years old when he killed two white men during a robbery in Garland, Texas ... and in 2009, a nearly all-white jury convicted him and decided he deserved the death penalty.

Prosecutors introduced Broadnax's handwritten rap lyrics as evidence only after he was convicted -- during the sentencing phase -- and during deliberation, the jury twice asked to see 40 pages of Broadnax's lyrics.

Lamar Odom is getting back to work after checking out of rehab -- and getting back to his basketball roots, TMZ has learned. 

Sources close to the former NBA star tell us, Lamar has been traveling recently and sat down with several college basketball programs to discuss potential coaching opportunities. 

The two-time NBA champ has had conversations with athletic departments and basketball staff about joining them to help develop the next generation of players. 

TMZ Sports has obtained the mug shot of Daniel Di Vonne Parsons -- the man accused of killing pro football player Jordan Jones during an altercation outside of a Georgia bar.

Parsons, 25, was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery after Jones was fatally shot outside of Saddle Bar in Acworth, Georgia, on March 7.

We spoke with the bar manager about the incident this week, who told us Jones, one of their security staffers, stepped in to break up a fight between a woman and Parsons, according to their surveillance video, which was handed over to police.

Shia LaBeouf reportedly just got cleared to fly to Rome for his father's baptism -- after a Louisiana judge originally denied his plea following his battery arrest.

According to newly filed court docs, a new judge has approved the actor's request to leave New Orleans. And per The Guardian, his weeklong trip to Rome to watch his father, Jeff, get baptized is now back on the table as a result.

Shia originally asked to head to Italy's capital from March 1 to March 8, but the judge wasn't moved by any sort of higher power and ordered him to stay put and seek substance abuse treatment. However, his lawyer Sarah Chervinsky filed another request in the same courthouse on March 4 ... and magistrate Peter Hamilton was happier to work with Shia's needs.

Jenelle Evans is preparing to visit her son, Jace, at the mental health facility where he's currently receiving treatment, but the trip hasn't happened just yet ... TMZ has learned.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... Jenelle has not visited Jace in person since he entered the facility. However, she's planning a trip to the Carolinas for spring break with all of her children and intends to see Jace while she's there.

We're told Jenelle, who lives in Las Vegas, has been staying in close contact with Jace. Meanwhile, her mom, Barbara Evans -- who Jace has been living with -- has been visiting him regularly at the facility.

Misty Copeland is pushing back on Timothée Chalamet's controversial comments that "no one cares about” ballet and opera ... saying the centuries-old art forms paved the way for actors like him.

The famed ballerina addressed the actor's remarks during a recent panel discussion ... acknowledging opera and ballet aren't part of pop culture in the same way movies are -- but adding that "doesn't mean it doesn't have enduring relevance in culture."

Copeland says it's "often mistaken when something is popular that it's meaningful or more impactful," pointing out that opera and ballet have been around for more than 400 years.
